Sitting can be a death sentence!
Friday, 03 September 2010 06:55
Turns out your desk job is a death sentence!!!
Studies have found that the more you sit, the more likely you are to get heart disease...EVEN IF YOU EAT RIGHT AND EXERCISE!! Wow....Sitting is an independant risk factor. Our bodies were never designed to sit around for 8 hours a day. It doesn't matter what you weigh, how much you exercise out of the office, if you're sitting down for most of the day you're 54% MORE LIKELY to have a heart attack than people who don't sit for work. Basically head to toe, inside and out sitiing is a silent killer.
What to do....
It's pretty simple actually...you just have to move more...and NOT at the gym. There is a difference between exercising and being active. Exercising is somehting you might do for half an hour a day, where being active is standing more, moving more or walking more. Just commit to moving around as much as you can if you spend a lot of time sitting...it will save your health and in turn your life!
Have a great day,
Happy, Healthy thoughts, :-)

Overactive Sweat Glands
Tuesday, 31 August 2010 07:49
I could just imagine how unbelievably frustrating this must be. That's why I am your Health Tip "Expert"!!! I have some solutions to beat this condition...
1. Fist you need to determine whether the condition is mild or severe. Your doctor is best suited to do this. He/She will know the questions to ask to find that out! Both conditions have treatments available and your doctor will let you know which one is best for you.
2. You need to be aware that certain medications cause O.A.S which again your doc can tell you about, but it is also hereditary.
I did recieve a few emails on this topic after I mentioned it, here are a few suggestions from other listeners:
* Drysol is used by one listener who swears by it ands says it has done wonders for their O.A.S. He wishes someone would have told him about this sooner. It is kept behind the counter, but all you need to do is ask for it. * Another listener drinks Hushed Sea Tea...two cups a day for a few weeks and apparently you'll see amazing results.
I really hope this works if you suffer from this.

5 Second Health Checks
Friday, 27 August 2010 06:54
Hey!!!
I saw this in Prevention magazine and I thought this was a VERY important topic. 5 second health checks for overall general health.
1. Sleep Test. How fast do you fall asleep? If you're like Mike and I and fall asleep within seconds, it's a great sign that you are sleep deprived...um...we get up at 4!! Of course we are! ;-). To fix this try going to bed 30 minutes earlier, it should take about 7-12 minutes to fall asleep if you are generally well rested.
2. Toilet Test. Ewww...I know, but it's really important. After you "go" take a look in the bowl. Is there any blood? If so, this could simply be hemerrhoids, but if you've never had a problem with them before head to the doctor. This could be a sign of colon cancer or diverticulosis. These are small pouches that stick out in the lining of the colon.
3. Bloating Test. Many women get bloated for several different reasons, and because of this we tend to ignore any signs of bloating. However, if the bloating symptoms last two weeks or longer this could be an early sign of ovarian cancer. This is one of the first signs, one of the earliest signs and it's at the most treatable stage so it's important to take notice and get it checked out. Another sign is that you get full fast, if you have both symptoms head to your doctor and get a quick check up.
Early detection for any issue is the best thing we can do to keep ourselves healthy.
Happy Health!

Chapped Lips, Cold Sores and Acne
Wednesday, 25 August 2010 06:53
Hey!!!
They're three things no one wants to deal with, but if you're plagued by them then you need to! Cold sores, chapped lips and acne are all very frustrating and embarassing but here are a few suggestions to help you out:
Cold Sores: You should avoid foods like chocolate, peanuts, sunflower seeds and coffee as well as gelatin which can be found in marshmellows, sour cream and cream cheese. These contain chemicals that trigger cold sore flare ups. Instead aim for foods like chicken, fish, dairy products, peaches and apples. These foods contain an enzyme that prevents viruses from reproducing.
Chapped Lips: Skip out on the coffee, tea and pop. These all pull moisture from our bodies and that's what is causing our skin and lips to become dry. Eat more fish and nuts. These contain fatty acids that add moisture to our bodies.
Acne: Avoid dairy. The iodine used to keep dairy cows infection free can cause hormonal changes that make acne worse. Eat more chicken! A diet high in protein and low in carbs SIGNIFICANTLY reduces pimple flare ups.
If you want more info on this you can get it from Digestive Wellness by Dr. Elizabeth Lipski.
I hope that helps out! Have a great day!

2#. In a separate bowl whisk an egg white till frothy.
3#. Add one tablespoon of cornstarch to the egg white and continue to whisk.

Umbilical Cord Blood Saving The Lives Of Strangers
Tuesday, 03 August 2010 06:51
Hey!!
Turns out you can now donate umbilical cord blood and help out a stranger in need. The blood from umbilical cords is being used in stem cell research and is being used for bone marrow transplants to treat leukemia, sickle cell anemia and cancer. Some parents are storing it in a private bank in case the child or family member gets sick, but others are donating it to help out complete strangers. Since the umbilical cord is going to be thrown away it may as well be used for a great purpose!
If you're pregnant or know someone who is and want to find out more about umbilical cord donating check out their website at www.lifebank.com, or www.cordblood-bank.net or you can call the Cord Blood Bank of Canada at (905) 943-4933.
Great cause!!
Have a great day!

Chemo can cause major mouth pain
Tuesday, 27 July 2010 07:11
Hey!!
I have a family member going through Chemo and I know that certain side effects take place that can make the experience even worse than it has to be. When I came across this article I thought it may help you out if you or someone you know is getting ready to go through chemo. Chemo can really wreak havic on your mouth, but with proper oral care before, during and after cancer treatments you can minimize your risk...Here's what you can do:
First, find a dental oncologist. These are dentists that specialize in cancer patients. We do have a few here in Prince George ask your dentist and I'm sure they can guide you. Once you find one, then have them speak with your doctor to come up with the proper treatment plan.
Then, get a complete dental evaluation. If the dentist finds ANY problems take care of them one month before you start treatment. Once radiation starts your mouth won't be able to heal as well.
Once treatment starts make sure you practise good oral care. Brush after every meal with a perscription grade toothpaste, and drink plenty of water. This increases saliva production which keeps bacteria away.
Everyday give your mouth a once over and check to see if you have any swelling or redness contact your dentist if you see any.
