  • Throne Speech
    Governor General Michaelle Jean says all of the government's energy will be directed to addressing the challenges faced by Canadian families, businesses and workers. Jean delivered the government's throne speech this morning, and laid out a five part plan the Conservatives say they hope will protect Canada from the global economic crisis. Among the plan, the government says they'll do what they can to avoid ongoing deficits, but says they're not ruling them out in the short-term. They're also promising to expand investment and trade and meet environmental goals.

  • Avrim Lazar Visit
    The President and CEO of the Forest Products Association of Canada, Avrim Lazar is expected to make a  stop in Prince George later today, meeting with the media and area stakeholders. Lazar says regardless of what's happening with the markets, now is the time for all levels of government to fully integrate competitive economic thinking into environmental planning. He says ignoring environmental concerns during tough economic times will just put Canada further behind the curve. 

  • Hart Highway MVI

    Two people were taken to hospital with are believed to be non life threatening injuries following a two  vehicle crash in the Hart just after 8 this morning. One vehicle turning out from the dump at Foothills  and  West Austin,when it was t-boned by another.  Constable Gary Godwin says it is slippery out there and visibility wasn't an issue in this incident.  



  • Parking Meter Vandalism

    Police are out with the identification team trying to locate the vandals who tore into a number of the parking meters along Victoria Street and Fourth Avenue,  and  smashed the heads off the meters.
    It's just another example of the troubles that need to be dealt with in the downtown, according to newly-elected Councillor and president of the Downtown Business Improvement Association Shari Green. Green says it's ironic the vandalism happened about 24 hours after City Council opted to get rid of meters in the downtown.



  • Bear Lake Recount(VIDEO)
    The Regional District of Fraser Fort George has done a recount for the fourth and final seat for the Bear Lake Commission, and it will now go to a judicial recount by a provincial court judge. The two candidates are tied at 41 votes.

  • Telus Fraud(VIDEO)
    Telus is warning customers an email circulating saying wireless numbers will be released to telemarketers is fraudulant.  The company says they never sell or give phone numbers to telemarketers other than what is publicly available via the phone book. If you happen to come across the email, titled - Cell Phone Numbers Go Public This Month, you are asked to disregard and delete.

  • First Nations Connection(VIDEO)
    To help bridge the digital divide for First Nations, the provincial government is providing twenty-two point five million dollars for broadband connectivity.  The money is expected to go a long way in bringing broadband access to all First Nations communities in the province.  Something that's become imperative in this day and age.

  • Intermodal Success(VIDEO)
    Initiatives Prince George feels the city's intermodal port is coming of age.

  • Downtown Expansion(VIDEO)
    Expanding downtown was a hot topic at last night's city council meeting. A group of downtown property owners explained why they are not in favor of increasing the boundaries.

  • RCMP Building(VIDEO)
    A recommendation from City Administration to award the Phase One contract for the new RCMP building on Victoria Street has run into a snag. The recommendation was to award the contract to a Kelowna-based company, based on the company's past experience in building police detachments. But the manner in which the recommendation was reached came under some fire last night.
